Solenoid Fundamentals: Ordering Information

The performance published in our data sheets is for guidance only as varying electrical, mechanical and environmental conditions will have an effect. For us to assist you in specifying the correct solenoid to suit your application, the following information needs to be determined.

  1. SPACE ENVELOPE

Specify maximum envelope available. Remember the larger the solenoid the lower the current and operating costs.

  2. FORCE OR TORQUE REQUIRED

    Specify initial requirements.

  3. STROKE

Stroke is expressed in degrees of rotation for Rotary Solenoids, and movement in mm for Linear Solenoids. Specify direction and angle of rotation (viewed on Armature Plate) for Rotary Solenoids. Specify Push or Pull operation and movement required for Linear Solenoids.

  4. DUTY CYCLE

Duty cycles is expressed as a percentage of the on time in a total time taken for 1 cycle of operation. If in doubt specify max on time and min off time for 1 cycle.

  5. POWER SOURCE

Specify working voltage tolerances and any current limitations.

  6. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE

    Specify working ambient temperature.
